Afghan athletes have won a total of 2 medals at the Summer Olympic Games. All of these medals have been won in taekwondo.
The National Olympic Committee for Afghanistan was created in 1935 and recognized in 1936.
Afghan athletes were banned from competing at Sydney 2000, because of a punishment made by the IOC, due to the discrimination against women in the country. Four years later, Afghanistan sent a delegation of five athletes to the Olympic Games, of which two were women, who would be the first ever women to compete for Afghanistan.
