Alexandra Raisman is a gymnast who has competed for the United States. She competed at the 2012 and 2016 Summer Olympic Games.
Raisman arrived at her first Olympics in 2012 as the captain of the U.S. women's gymnastics team and a top medal favorite in the all-around and apparatus routines. She contributed highest remarks on the floor exercise and balance team and helped the American women, known as the Fierce Five reclaim the team all-around title for the first time since Atlanta 1996. On the individual side, Raisman shared a third spot with Aliya Mustafina in the all-around based on their cumulative score; however, she lost the bronze medal in a tie-breaker and placed fourth. She rebounded from her podium defeat to secure a bronze in the balance beam based on her execution score and a successful video review from her coach Marta Karolyi. Raisman ended her run successfully at the Games with a gold-medal triumph on the floor exercise, becoming the first-ever American woman to attain the feat.
Four years later in Rio de Janeiro, Raisman returned to lead the U.S. women's gymnastics squad and help the Final Five, as dubbed by her teammates, successfully defend the all-around title by a massive 8.209-point margin ahead of their Russian rivals. On the individual side, she entered the final stage of the all-around routine as a second-seeded gymnast behind her teammate Simone Biles, edging out the reigning champion Gabrielle Douglas to third and denying her a chance to defend her title because of the two-per-country restriction rule. During the final, she sealed the runner-up spot with a score of 60.098 for the silver medal, finishing behind Biles by two points. She repeated the same feat with Biles on the floor exercise few days later, as they continued to hand the entire medal haul for the Final Five with the top two spots. Bringing her career medal tally to six, Raisman became the third-most decorated American gymnast in Olympic history behind Biles and Shannon Miller (both tied for seven).
