Cameron van der Burgh is a swimmer who has competed for South Africa. He qualified for the South African swimming team at the 2008, 2012, and 2016 Summer Olympic Games. He won a gold medal in the 100 metres breaststroke at London 2012 with a new world record time and eventually secured a silver four years later in Rio de Janeiro, finishing behind the current world record holder and successor Adam Peaty of Great Britain. In late 2018, van der Burgh officially retired from competitive swimming.
