Derrick Rose was born on October 4, 1988 in Chicago, Illinois. He grew up in a dangerous area but with the support of his three brothers he avoided the gang life and grew up playing basketball. Rose enrolled in the prestigious Simeon High School which is one of the best high school basketball programs in the nation. He wore the number 25 jersey in honor of Ben Wilson a top basketball player who was murdered. In his high school career, Derrick led his team to a winning record which was 120 wins and 12 losses. He averaged 21.1 ppg, 8.2 apg, 6.2 rpg and 2.7 spg. Rose was named Illinois Mr. Basketball, the Mcdonalds all star team and was the top high school prospect in the nation. After high school Rose went to play for the University of Memphis. Derrick averaged 14.9 ppg, 4.7 apg and 4.5 rebounds per game during his college career. His team went on to play the NCAA championship game against the Kansas Jayhawks in which they lost in overtime.
Derrick Rose was selected first overall by the Chicago Bulls in the 2008 NBA draft. Rose soared as a superstar with the Bulls earning Rookie of year honors and MVP in his third season. Michael Jordan and Derrick Rose are the only Bulls players who have received MVP honors. He led the Bulls to the NBA playoffs 5 times. His first year against the Boston Celtics but lost in 7 games. His second year they lost to the Cleveland Cavaliers in 5 games. His fourth year they beat both the Indiana Pacers and the Atlanta Hawks but lost to the Miami Heat in the Eastern Conference. In his fifth year an unfortunate circumstance came as Rose tore his ACL in a playoff game against the Philadelphia 76ers. The Bulls lost in that round. He is currently rehabbing and is expected to make his debut again in February of 2013.
