Eric Shanteau has competed for USA Eric Shanteau has won 1 gold medal at the Olympic Games

Eric Shanteau is a swimmer who has competed for the United States. He qualified for his first Olympics in 2008 after placing in the runner-up spot behind Scott Spann in the men's 200 metres breaststroke at the U.S. trials. A week before the pre-selection meet, he was diagnosed with testicular cancer but opted to compete regardless of his condition. At his Olympic debut, Shanteau finished tenth overall in the semifinal round of his signature race, missing the final by 0.13 of a second. After returning to the United States, he underwent surgery to remove the cancerous testicle, putting him into remission.

Shanteau was selected to the U.S. team for his second Games in London four years later after finishing second in the men's 100 metres breaststroke. Despite failing to enter the final of his respective individual event, he helped the Americans solidify their gold-medal triumph and title defense in the men's 4x100 metres medley relay by swimming through the breaststroke leg in the preliminary heats.
