Figure Skating was first featured during the 1908 Summer Olympics, and it is one of two sports to have been featured in both the Winter Olympic Games and the Summer Olympic Games. Nowadays, the figure skating is part of the Skating program, together with Speed Skating and Short Track.

The United States and Russia have proven to be competitive in figure skating, the United States winning 51 medals, of which 15 gold, and Russia, with its predecessor Soviet Union, winning 54 medals, of which 26 gold.
