Neve and Gliz were the official mascots of the 2006 Winter Olympics in Torino. Aster was the official mascot of the 2006 Winter Paralympics. Neve and Gliz were both created by Pedro Albuquerque. He also made Aster, as the organizing committee for Torino commissioned him to make a mascot along the lines of Neve and Gliz. Neve and Gliz represent the characteristics of the Winter Games, as Neve is a snowball (Neve means snow in Italian), while Gliz is an ice cube (Gliz is shortened for Ghiaccio, which is ice in Italian). Aster, meanwhile, represents the ideals of the Paralympics; determination, passion, and courage of the disabled athlete.
