The women's artistic gymnastics team event qualification was held on September 17th and the final was held on September 19th at the Sydney Superdome. In 2010, the results were amended after it was discovered the Chinese gymnast Dong Fangxiao was underaged at the time of the Olympics. The bronze medal that the Chinese won was awarded to the team from the USA.
Twelve teams competed in the qualification round and six moved on to the final. Five athletes competed in each apparatus with the lowest score being dropped for each team.
