Lisbeth Trickett is a swimmer who has competed for Australia. She competed at the 2004, 2008, and 2012 Summer Olympic Games.
Trickett started her Olympic career in 2004 under the maiden name Lisbeth Lenton. There, she claimed her first individual medal with a bronze in the 50 metres freestyle, edging out Therese Alshammar in a close race by 0.02 of a second. She also helped the Australian women's team of Alice Mills, Petria Thomas, and Jodie Henry solidify their gold-medal triumph with a new world record (3:57.32) in the 4x100 metres freestyle relay for the first time in 48 years.
Trickett has continued to be a member of the Australian swimming team at Beijing 2008 and London 2012, changing her name to Lisbeth Trickett or Libby Trickett. In 2008, she snatched her first individual gold with an Australian record time (56.73) in the 100 metres butterfly. The feat made her the second-fastest swimmer in the event's history, 0.12 seconds behind the leader Inge de Bruijn. She finished second behind Britta Steffen in the 100 metres freestyle but narrowly missed the podium in the 50 by 0.08 of a second behind her teammate Cate Campbell. For the relay races, Trickett and her teammates beat the fast-pacing Chinese team to lock the podium with a bronze in the 4x100 metres freestyle relay. She added a third gold to her medal haul by defending the title as the butterfly swimmer of the Australian women's team in the 4x100 metres medley relay with a world record time (3:52.69).
In December 2009, Trickett retired from competitive swimming, citing waning motivation. Nine months later, she returned to the sport for her third Olympic bid. At London 2012, she swam through the last leg in the heats of the 4x100 metres freestyle relay. Because the Australians continued to reclaim their title after eight years in the final with a new Olympic record (3:33.15), Trickett won the fourth gold of her Olympic career.
