The 1984 Summer Olympic Games, officially known as the Games of the XXIII Olympiad, was held in Los Angeles, California. Tehran, Iran was the only other interested city on the international level, but declined to bid due to political and social changes. IOC awarded Los Angeles the Games by default.
In response to the American led boycott of the Summer Olympic Games in Moscow, a number of Soviet block countries refused to compete, including the Soviet Union, Cuba, Poland, Czechoslovakia, Bulgaria, North Korea, Vietnam and East Germany.
