Matthew Grevers is a swimmer who has competed for the United States. He competed at the 2008 and 2012 Summer Olympic Games.
Grevers started his Olympic career in Beijing 2008. There, he won two gold medals as a member of the U.S. men's 4x100 metres freestyle relay and 4x100 metres medley relay teams by swimming in the heats. On the individual side, he claimed his first individual medal with a silver in the 100 metres backstroke, lagging 0.57 of a second behind the defending champion and world record holder Aaron Peirsol.
After Peirsol retired from swimming in 2011, Grevers continued to build an American supremacy in the 100 metres backstroke by following the former champion's footsteps towards his first individual gold and a new Olympic record (52.16) at London 2012. He also added another gold as a backstroke swimmer of the U.S. men's team in the 4x100 metres medley relay and a silver as a member of the 4x100 metres freestyle relay team during the heats.
Grevers attempted to qualify for his third Olympic team in 2016, but he finished third in his pet race behind Ryan Murphy and David Plummer at the U.S. trials.
