At the 2012 National Visa Championships, Maroney suffered a mild concussion and nasal fracture when she landed flat on her back during a training session prior to night two of the competition. Maroney petitioned for the opportunity to compete at the Olympic Trials. On July 1, 2012, Maroney was one of the five women selected to the USA Gymnastics Olympic team. Maroney and her teammates won the team gold medal on July 31, 2012 and Maroney won the silver medal in the vault event finals.
