McKayla Maroney is a gymnast who has competed for the United States. She competed at the 2012 Summer Olympic Games.
At her first and only Olympic stint in 2012, Maroney contributed an impressive vault score and helped the American women, known as the Fierce Five reclaim the team all-around title for the first time since Atlanta 1996. On the individual side, she finished second behind Sandra Raluca Izbașa in her signature apparatus with a score of 15.083. After receiving a silver medal during the victory ceremony, Maroney was photographed on the podium while giving a brief look of disappointment with her lips pursed to the side. The image soon became an internet phenomenon sparked by a blog called "McKayla is not impressed".
On February 24, 2016, Maroney officially retired from her competitive gymnastics career, citing health issues before and after her Olympic stint.
