Nodar Kumaritashvili was a luger who competed for Georgia. He was scheduled to compete at the 2010 Winter Olympic Games. He passed away on 12 February 2010, at the age of 21, after crashing out of the luge track during the training. He was the twenty-third athlete to die in Olympic circumstances (training and/or competition), and the first athlete since Sydney 2000.
His younger cousin Saba Kumaritashvili upheld his legacy of Georgia in Olympic luge when he competed at Beijing 2022.
