Oksana Aleksandrovna Chusovitina was born on June 19, 1975 in Bukhara, Uzbek SSR, USSR. Chusovitina has been to more Olympics than any other female gymnast. Chusovitina has competed for three different countries (Soviet Union's Unified Team, Uzbekista n and Germany). Chusovitina remained a competitive elite gymnast to help pay for treatments for her son, Alisher, who was diagnosed with acute lymphocytic leukemia in 2002. Because it was not possible for her son to get treatment in Uzbekistan, the gymnastics community rallied support for Alisher to receive treatment in Germany. Once she became a German citizen she then started competing for Germany as a thank you for helping to save her son's life. Chusovitina's best apparatus is the vault where she was the 2008 Olympic Silver medallist, and holds the record for the most world medals on a single event. Chusovitina was a member of the German team in 2012 and in 2016 represented her home country of Uzbekistan.
Personal Life
Chusovitina married Olympic wrestler Bakhodir Kurpanov in 1997. The couple welcomed their son, Alisher in November 1999.
