The Olympic Flame or Olympic Torch is one of the most known symbols of the Olympic Games. It commemorates the ancient Athenian Olympic tradition of keeping a flame burning throughout the course of the games.

It was first introduced in the modern Olympic games at the 1928 Summer Olympic Games in Amsterdam. The Olympic Cauldron which is the actual fire kept burning during the Olympiad is commonly lit at the opening ceremony of the Games at the conclusion of a torch relay throughout the host country.
