Ricky Berens is a swimmer who has competed for the United States. He competed at the 2008 and 2012 Summer Olympic Games.
Berens started his Olympic career as a relay-only swimmer in Beijing 2008. There, he helped the U.S. men's team of Michael Phelps, Ryan Lochte, and Peter Vanderkaay clear the seven-minute mark for a new world record (6:58.56) and their title defense in the 4x200 metres freestyle relay.
Four years later, Berens placed third at the U.S trials, thereby selecting him to the men's 4x200 metres freestyle relay team. When Phelps decided to forego his individual spot and instead focus on the freestyle relay duties, Berens replaced him to swim the 200 metres freestyle. At London 2012, he missed the top eight final by 0.07 of a second, placing ninth from the semifinals. In the 4x200 metres freestyle relay, he teamed with Phelps, Lochte, and Conor Dwyer to blast a seven-minute barrier in textile to defend their title for the third straight time (6:59.70). He also contributed to the U.S. team's runner-up finish in the men's 4x100 metres freestyle relay by swimming through the third leg in the heats.
