Saarland was a small region of Germany that was occupied by the french. They competed for the first and only time during the 1952 Summer Olympics after that Saarland was allowed to join the United Team of Germany for the 1956 Summer Olympics. Saarland however did not send athletes to the 1956 winter games nor did they enter with the United Team of Germany
