The United Team of Germany was created between 1956 and 1964. For the three winter and summer olympic games East and West Germany came together although remained two different countries during this time. They sported a new altered German flag with the olympic rings in the center and also adopted a unique anthem to avoid an argument between over the nations over which anthem to use. It was Beethoven's Symphony No. 9 melody to Schiller's Ode an die Freude (the ode to joy)
