Yulimar Rojas is a track and field athlete who has competed for Venezuela. She competed at the 2016 and 2020 Summer Olympic Games.
At her Olympic debut in Rio de Janeiro, the 20-year-old Rojas edged ahead of the defending champion Olga Rypakova from Kazakhstan with her remarkable distance of 14.87 metres on the fourth attempt to take a silver in the women's triple jump, becoming the first Venezuelan woman in history to win an Olympic medal and the first for athletics since Asnoldo Devonish ascended the podium with a bronze in 1952.
Five years later in Tokyo, Rojas returned to her second Games as an overwhelming favorite for the gold medal in the same event. She opened the triple jump final brilliantly by establishing a new Olympic record of 15.41 metres on her initial attempt, pipping a 13-year-old mark from Françoise Mbango Etone by the closest margins. With two fouls recorded and a gold medal already secured, she improved her most outstanding jump to 15.67 metres for a new world record at the sixth and final attempt, extending a distance of 17 centimetres from Inessa Kravets' 26-year-old mark. Rojas set another historic milestone as the first-ever Venezuelan woman to win an Olympic gold medal and third overall in history, following Francisco Rodríguez and Rubén Limardo Gascón. She was also initially selected to carry the Venezuelan flag at the opening ceremony with Antonio Díaz, but she arrived in Tokyo a few days after and missed the parade.
